NIUPOWER Ltd has donated 118 solar kits to the Gorohu village in the Central Province.
NiuPower chief executive officer Michael Uiari said access to electricity is one of the country’s biggest priorities with the government’s aim to cover 75 per cent of the country’s rural population by 2030.
“On behalf of NiuPower and its shareholders, Kumul Petroleum and Santos, we are pleased to extend the support to Gorohu and its surrounding communities. We have donated 118 solar kits so that they have lights,” Mr Uiari said.
“These communities are important to us. We have the PNGLNG and we have been operating since 2019, and as part of our program we have extended some of what we do to the community here.

In a ceremony last Friday, the Prime Minister, James Marape, Minister for Public Enterprise and State Investments, Sasindran Muthuvel, together with Kumul Petroleum Holdings Managing Director, Wapu Sonk, and NiuPower Chairman, Peter Botten, commissioned the US$100 million gas-fired 58MW Port Moresby Power Station.

The Minister for State Enterprises and Investments, Hon William Duma, today launched the Port Moresby Power Project during a ground breaking ceremony near the PNG LNG liquefaction plant site.

Port Moresby, 26th June 2017 – Papua New Guinea’s National Oil and Gas Company, Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited (KPHL) has appointed Richard Robinson to head its new Energy Business Subsidiary.
Mr Robinson will be heading Kumul Energy Company (which is a 100% Subsidiary of KPHL). In his capacity as Head of Kumul Energy he will be seconded as CEO to the Oil search and KPHL 50/50 joint-venture NiuPower Limited, which will own and build the Port Moresby Power Station.
